Why have you become a trainer:I believe fitness is an important component of wellness. I have a family history of diabetes and needed a more active lifestyle to stay healthy. I also had an injured shoulder. About 2 years ago, I began exercising regularly and working with a personal trainer to improve my own fitness. I realized that if I could improve my fitness, anyone can.
What is your training style:I am patient and encouraging. I believe fitness should be fun but takes some effort. How hard my clients work is really up to them - I provide guidance and cheerleading, I don't make anyone do things they don't want to. I encourage my clients to find activities they enjoy, and to view fitness as a lifestyle and not a quick fix.
In general, please describe your experience:I have 2 years experience on the client side of personal training, and have also attended private and group classes in Yoga and Pilates, and workshops on the physioball and kettlebells. I took and passed the NSCA CSCS exam in February 2005. I have been on the trainer side for the past 6 months working as an intern trainer at Foothill College's Wellness Center. My clients have included a young woman, a mid 40's golfer, and active adults in their 60s.
