What in your opinion is the biggest mistake people make while working out:I think the biggest mistake that people make while working out is the unrealistic goals that they set for themselves. Clients along with trainers should set short term goals first and reset goals after accomplishing the prior goal set. Starting out with weights that are too heavy is a common mistake people make because they want to see results quicker. This very often leads to injury. If a client does not enjoy the type of activity that they are doing, they are also likely not to continue.
Describe your own workout program:My own workout program consists of a good balance of cardio, resistance and free weight training. I am an older adult and enjoy many sports activities such as tennis and golf. I try to encourage my clients also to participate in such activities. Along with in-home training that I do along with my clients, I will also participate in water aerobics and pilates with them. I get my power walking in also with clients as part of their training & play tennis 2x a week and golf at least once.
Describe a particularly challenging client you have trained:I presently train a 59 year old gentleman who has type II diabetes, is overweight and until the last month smoked cigarettes (one pack a day). He gave up smoking (finally) about 1 month ago after a scare. He works extremely hard on the elliptical trainer getting his heart rate up to 90% of MHR. He has a good outlook towards exercise and is able to drop pounds when he wants to. I have finally convinced him to monitor his blood sugar before & after exercise using incentive programs.
