Cardio Exercise Doesn't Have To Be Aerobic
I mix walking with short bouts of sprinting. I walk about 20 blocks and 4 of those blocks I sprint as fast as I possibly can.
Sometimes it looks freaky and people think I am running away from someone, but I still do it ;) I to do this either late at night or super early when no one is around ;)

Steaming & blending
Hi,
Any high temperature activity takes some nutrients out of food. Because of this I cook if I really have to and if I do - I cook on low temperature.
With many grains you can leave them in a filtered water over night and just heat them up the next morning or whenever you eat them and that preserves most of the nutrients.
Just doing boil anything for too long if nutrients is what you want.
Tell me more about your smoothies - what do you do?

Who do I see first when having a back pain -> chiropractor or a trainer?
I would like to see if someone can answer this question and help me sort out all the "it depends" scenarios.

Oil Prices & Redefining your job description. Personal trainer or health consultant?
High oil prices will result in people driving less, much less. This will have some effects at the personal training business - no doubts about it.
How does a personal trainer respond to this effect? Here are a few tips:
1. Become better at sales - get some audio books that talk about selling better, more effectively. In the past - you could afford not to sell during the initial free consultation. Today - you must sell every time, so take some time to get better at it. This doesn't mean that you are a car salesman, but it simply means that you know what NOT to say to scare people off. I used to believe that a trainer is an advocate for healthy living and that it stops there...boy - was I wrong. As a trainer - you have the responsibility to make people feel better about themselves and encourage them -> all the things that you will learn about when you pick up a book about selling.
2. Network with other health professionals. Chiropractors, dietitians, massage therapists are on the lookout for networking opportunities so call them and visit them in person.
3. Stop spending money on educational courses that lead to nowhere. At times of crisis people think that education is the key to overcome it -> it is but not education that doesnt give you credit that you can use to get a real Masters Degree or a BA. You see - those are the two that will end up being useful in the future when reimbursements from insurance companies will be tied to certain education level.
4. Get a website and get busy on line. I am still shocked that people do not want to spend time talking about their business and concerns on this forum. This is a great way to learn new skills from others for free. Do you need to spend money to learn something? No, it works like our health care system - the less you spend the higher quality you get. Well, something like that anyway.
Hope this post will help you save money, make money and get better at what you do everyday in your fitness careers.
Thanks

Safety Tips for Weight Lifting - 10 Machines You Shouldn't Use
Excellent reply, UltimateTrainer. Here are some of my thoughts:
While goal setting is important for every client and his/her trainer - recently I noticed that educating clients about those exercises that help them live their lives pain and disease free are most important.
Increased costs for health care and a high number of un-insured makes a good case for those exercise regimens that focus on keeping the patient/client away from hospital/doctor/clinic etc...
Exercises that have even 1% potential to hurt the client by pulling a muscle or introducing pain should be discussed with the client.
Do you ask your clients if they have health insurance?
Another issue is the employer wellness programs. Employers are not interested in clients' strength. Employers want the client to do those exercises that fix their posture, eliminate obesity and make the client more productive at work.
So, today, when choosing the proper exercise routine - one should look into what makes the client's life better from the point of exposure to any risk.
As an exercise professional, the job is to be good enough to explain that when the client is training with you, their safety, career and well being is also watched out for...not just their looks.
Thanks

How to succeed on Zegee.com
When you use Google and search for a personal trainer in my city - Fort Lauderdale - My zegee profile comes up in the first 10 results.
Why? Here is why:
1. I have a photo
2. I have an extensive profile ( http://www.zegee.com/trainer/polishtrainer )
3. I have connected the forum to my profile.
4. I have a Zegee Ad.
5. I also linked to the Zegee profile from my other websites.
So, to achieve this success in rankings on Google, I recommend everyone follows my 5 steps.
Thanks

Training more than one client at a time
I think the rate should be the same. By trying to charge more or less for different type of training you are going into a direction that will give clients a choice to pay for the cheapest form of training that you offer.
I think it is better to charge a set price and let the trainer decide what the client gets.

Eat Early, Eat Less and Lose Weight
Honestly, I think the whole thing about breakfast has been overblown in all media and studies.
The fact is that 1000 years ago when a human being woke up from sleep, there was no breakfast waiting to be eaten. He/she had to gather food and go get water from a nearby river.
So - to say that we all should eat breakfast is a concoction of all cereal and food companies forcing us to eat more and more.
Bottom line - if you dont want to eat breakfast - don't do it. Have some water, coffee and off you go.
If you are a child or athlete - than it's a different story - you do need the sugars and nutrients of a good breakfast, but not from milk and cereal but from whole grains and vegetables.

Your presence on YouTube.com is more important than your search engine optimization..
I recently did some research into YouTube.com and came to a conclusion that more people are visiting YouTube.com and staying on it than Google.com
What that means is that you must be on YouTube if you want to get noticed. So - getting a video camera is a must and learning how to use it so that you can put yourself on the world's most popular video streaming site.
You can alternatively create video slideshows with a software that assembles the images together and you just add your music/audio to it.
All in all - spend some time and learn how to put yourself on YouTube so that you get the traffic you need to get new clients and sell your products.

Your profile is great. I like your photos and I agree 100% with your
philosophy of care. If I lived in Fort Lauderdale I would have hired
you to be my consultant/trainer.
